Retention and deletion
How long AnswerTide keeps each kind of data, and how it is deleted. Last updated 4 October 2026.
| Data | How long it's kept | How it's deleted |
|---|---|---|
| Your workspace: imported content, conversations, corrections, contacts and settings | While your account exists, including after a paid subscription ends. Nothing in it is deleted automatically, except as described below. | Email privacy@answertide.com from an owner's address and we delete the workspace and reply when it's done. Database backups may hold a copy until they are replaced. |
| A single conversation | With the workspace. | Not in the dashboard yet. Email privacy@answertide.com and we'll delete it. |
| A trial started without a card that ends without a paid plan | 30 days after the trial ends, so you can come back without starting over. | Deleted automatically, with everything in it, 30 days after the trial ends. You get a notice 7 days before. An owner or admin can delete it sooner from Billing. Trials started with a card are kept like any workspace. |
| A demo built from a public site | 7 days | Deleted automatically 7 days after it's created, or right away with its “Delete this demo” button. A demo you turn into an account becomes your workspace. |
| Uploaded files | We never keep the original file, only the text taken from it. | Removing the file in the dashboard deletes that text, and answers stop using it right away. |
| Pages imported from your website and connected documents | With the workspace. A re-import drops pages that no longer exist. | Removing a source stops answers from using it right away. Text from connected documents is deleted; text from website pages stays stored with the workspace until the workspace is deleted. |
| Corrections | With the workspace, including each version's history. | Retiring a correction stops it being used right away and can be undone. Its text stays in its history until the workspace is deleted. |
| No-patient-details mode: messages, team replies, helpdesk notes, email text and handoff transcripts | 30 days. Proposed policy, under review. Rolling out | A daily job deletes them, or clears their text, after 30 days. The record that a conversation happened, its outcome label, usage and billing are kept. |
| Audit log | As long as the workspace. Entries can't be edited or deleted. Rolling out | With the workspace. |
| Docs Answer Audit results | Set to expire 30 days after the audit runs. | The job that deletes expired audits is built but not scheduled yet. Until it is, email privacy@answertide.com and we'll delete an audit. |
| Visitor ID cookie | 365 days, in the visitor's browser. It holds a random ID, not a profile. | Visitors can clear it in their browser at any time. |
| One-way hashes of IP addresses used to limit abuse | Waitlist sign-ups: two hours. Demo creation: no automatic deletion yet. We never store the address itself. | Waitlist hashes are removed by the next sign-up after two hours. Demo-creation hashes stay until deleted by hand. |
| Opt-outs and unsubscribes | Indefinitely, so we keep honoring them. | Not deleted. |
| Status page checks (no personal data) | 120 days. | Deleted automatically after 120 days. |
Channels that are not switched on yet
- Phone voicemail: the audio stays with our phone provider and the transcript is kept like a conversation. There is no automatic deletion of the audio yet.
- Inbox agent email: emails received are kept like conversations. Disconnecting a mailbox stops new email; it doesn't delete what was received.
Getting your data out
Download your conversations from the dashboard as CSV or JSON: up to 5,000 at a time, each with its first question, last answer and outcome. Each download is recorded in the audit log. Rolling out
