Install on your docs platform

Paste one snippet where your docs platform runs custom code. The snippets below use YOUR_PUBLIC_KEY; copy yours, with your key already in it, from Install in the dashboard. For the full setup, see Setup.

Mintlify

  1. In your docs repo, create a .js file in the content directory — the folder that holds docs.json — for example answertide.js.
  2. Paste the JavaScript below into that file. Mintlify loads a third-party script from a .js file like this, not from a <script> tag in an MDX page.
  3. Commit and deploy. Mintlify runs every .js file in the content directory on every page, after the page becomes interactive.

GitBook

GitBook does not support a custom third-party script on any plan. Paste this on your main website instead — the widget still answers from your docs wherever it's installed.

  1. Open the shared header, footer, or layout file included on every page of the site.
  2. Paste the script tag once, just before the closing </body> tag (or in <head> if the install line says so).
  3. Deploy so every page serves the updated file.

ReadMe

Custom JavaScript on ReadMe is available on the Enterprise plan. On other plans, paste this on your main website instead.

  1. In your ReadMe project, open Appearance → Custom CSS/JS, then the Custom JavaScript field.
  2. Paste the JavaScript below. The field takes JavaScript, not a <script> tag.
  3. Save. It runs on every page of the published docs.

Docusaurus

  1. Open docusaurus.config.js (or .ts) at the root of your site.
  2. Add the entry below to the top-level scripts array. Docusaurus renders it as a <script> tag in <head> on every page and keeps extra attributes such as data-key; async stops it blocking the page.
  3. Rebuild and redeploy (docusaurus build).

Document360

Custom JavaScript on Document360 is available on the Business plan and above. On lower tiers, paste this on your main website instead.

  1. In the Document360 portal, open Settings → Knowledge base site → Site customization → Custom CSS & JavaScript.
  2. Select the JavaScript tab and paste the JavaScript below. The editor takes JavaScript, not a <script> tag.
  3. Save, then check your published knowledge base. Custom JavaScript does not run in shareable preview links.

Zendesk Guide

Theme code editing is not available on Suite Team. It's available from Suite Growth and up. On Suite Team, paste this on your main website instead.

  1. In Knowledge admin, open Customize design, click Customize on your theme, then Edit code. Duplicate the live theme first if you want to test before publishing.
  2. Open templates/document_head.hbs — the help center renders it inside <head> on every page.
  3. Paste the script tag at the end of document_head.hbs.
  4. Save (and Publish if you edited a copy of the theme).

Check it is live

Add the website to the allowed list under Install first; AnswerTide only loads on websites you allow. After you deploy, open any page of your docs. Install in the dashboard switches to Live on your domain once the widget loads there. Copying the snippet is not proof of install.
